Virender Sehwag Invests $500,000 in Fintech Startup Getepay and Joins as Brand Ambassador

Renowned cricketer Virender Sehwag has made a significant foray into the fintech sector by investing $500,000 in the Jaipur-based startup Getepay.

As part of this strategic collaboration, Sehwag will also serve as the brand ambassador and lend his voice to some of the brand’s IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System) services.

Founded by Pravin Sharma in 2016, Getepay specializes in providing customized digital payment and commerce solutions to merchants.

The company’s platform facilitates transaction management, website integration, and comprehensive payment solutions.

Getepay currently collaborates with over 1.5 million merchants and more than 150 banks across nearly every state in India, with an ambitious goal of expanding its merchant base to 2.5 million by 2025.

“I am thrilled to be onboard Getepay and be a part of their digital innovation journey. At Getepay, we are building digital offerings, especially for Bharat, which has excited me to be part of this journey. I am sure we will take this to maximum merchants in the coming days and enable cost-effective solutions for them,” Sehwag said, expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership.

Getepay has already secured over $4 million in funding from prominent investors, including Mahavir Pratap Sharma, Hyderabad Angels, ITI Growth Opportunities Fund, DBR Ventures LLP, and Yogesh Chaudhary.

The fresh capital infusion from Sehwag will further bolster the company’s efforts to enhance its payment and digital services and support its plans for international expansion.

“At Getepay, our vision is to create a safe, secure, and efficient payment ecosystem with a comprehensive package of products and services that enable businesses of all sizes and shapes to scale and grow. We think that payments have a long way to go from here, backed by policies from the regulator and the government. We want to be an active player in the payment ecosystem, providing services to merchants through continuous innovation leveraging technology,” said Pravin Sharma, Founder and CEO of Getepay.

This development comes amid a trend of Indian startups enlisting sports personalities as investors and brand ambassadors.

Recent examples include badminton player PV Sindhu’s investment in FMCG brand Better Nutrition and cricketer Shreyas Iyer’s investment in healthtech platform Curelo.

With Sehwag’s endorsement and financial backing, Getepay is poised to solidify its position as a leading player in the fintech space, driving digital transformation and providing innovative payment solutions to merchants across India and beyond.
