The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), the Government of Bihar, and the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) have signed key agreements today for the establishment of an Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya.
This landmark project, part of the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), is set to strengthen the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative by attracting both domestic and global investments.
The signing of the State Support Agreement (SSA) and Shareholder Agreement (SHA) represents a significant milestone in the development of IMC Gaya, which will cover an area of 1,670 acres.
The project is expected to attract investments worth INR 16,524 crore, with an initial project cost of INR 1,339 crore.
It is projected to generate approximately 1,09,185 jobs, delivering a substantial economic boost to the region.
Economic and Industrial Growth at the Heart of Bihar
IMC Gaya, located just 39 km south of Gaya International Airport, is strategically placed to attract industries across diverse sectors, including building materials, agri-food processing, leather goods, garments, furniture, handloom, handicrafts, engineering, and medical equipment.
The development of this cluster is aligned with the government’s vision of promoting industrialization while preserving cultural heritage, as outlined by the Finance Minister in her recent speech.
Gaya, a globally recognized destination for pilgrimage and heritage tourism, will benefit from both industrial growth and the enhancement of its cultural legacy.
Strategic Connectivity to Enhance Trade and Investment
One of the key strengths of IMC Gaya is its superior connectivity.
The cluster is located near major highways such as NH-19 (Golden Quadrilateral) and NH-22, and is within close proximity to Gaya Junction, the upcoming New Paharpur Railway Station under the Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), and Gaya International Airport.
Additionally, Patna International Airport and Ranchi Airport are easily accessible, providing robust links to major urban centers.
The project is also well-connected to key ports and terminals, including Haldia Port in Kolkata and IWAI terminals in Patna and Varanasi, further enhancing its logistical advantage for industries.
Three greenfield road projects are also in the pipeline to further improve connectivity, making Gaya a strategic hub for both domestic and international trade.
This enhanced accessibility will attract more businesses to set up operations within the IMC, making it an ideal location for manufacturing industries.
World-Class Infrastructure and Facilities
The IMC Gaya will be developed with advanced infrastructure, including a 29.89 km internal road network, robust power supply with 162 MVA capacity, and a 19 MLD water supply system.
The project will also include a skill development center, fire station, administrative offices, commercial spaces, and other essential facilities to support industrial operations.
Environmental sustainability will be prioritized with advanced infrastructure such as a Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Sewage Treatment Plant, Water Treatment Plant, Solid Waste Management, Stormwater drainage systems, and green landscaping.
A Transformative Project for Bihar’s Economy
The signing of the SSA and SHA agreements by key officials, including Shri Nitish Mishra, Minister of Industries, Government of Bihar, and Shri Rajat Kumar Saini, CEO & MD of NICDC, has underscored the strong commitment of all stakeholders to transforming Bihar into a leading industrial hub in Eastern India.
IMC Gaya will serve as a critical driver for employment generation, economic growth, and the promotion of Bihar as a key player in India’s manufacturing sector.
With the IMC Gaya poised to boost local manufacturing, foster industrial innovation, and attract substantial investments, this development is a major step toward realizing the vision of a ‘self-reliant’ India under the Make in India initiative.
The project is expected to not only create vast employment opportunities but also catalyze a new phase of industrial growth in Bihar, positioning the state as an industrial powerhouse in the region.
