Meesho, a leading social e-commerce startup, has made significant strides in safeguarding its platform and its users against fraud, announcing that it has successfully prevented over 2.2 crore fraudulent transactions in the last year.
As part of its commitment to user security, the company also blocked 77 lakh scam attempts and stopped 13 lakh bot orders from being processed, according to the second edition of its ‘Trust Assurance Report’ released today.
The efforts come under Meesho’s comprehensive fraud prevention initiative, Project Vishwas, which aims to bolster the platform’s trust and safety mechanisms.
By leveraging advanced analytical models, data science frameworks, and computational logic, the company has implemented robust solutions to protect customers and sellers from various forms of digital fraud.
As part of the initiative, Meesho has also launched a Quick Response team, consisting of 25 expert agents dedicated to resolving issues promptly.
The helpline embedded in the Meesho app ensures that customers can receive assistance within five minutes, enhancing user experience and trust.
Meesho’s partnership with threat intelligence platforms has been instrumental in identifying and removing over 18,000 fraudulent social media accounts.
Additionally, 130 fake websites and apps that attempted to misuse the platform’s brand for scams, including fake job portals, customer support impersonation, and fraudulent lucky draw schemes, were also taken down.
In addition, the company has worked closely with law enforcement agencies, filing nine FIRs and ensuring swift action against fraudsters involved in account takeovers.
One of the standout achievements in 2024 has been Meesho’s targeted crackdown on lottery fraud, where scammers impersonated trusted brands to deceive consumers.
With proactive investigations conducted in Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ranchi, Meesho was able to reduce lottery fraud incidents by 75% since October 2023.
Meesho’s focus on security and fraud prevention reflects its ongoing efforts to build and maintain user trust, positioning itself as a responsible and proactive player in the e-commerce space.
Through initiatives like Project Vishwas, the company is demonstrating its commitment to not only the safety of its users but also to the broader goal of digital literacy and online responsibility.
