Founded in 2015 by Mudit Dandwate and Gaurav Parchani, Dozee is a healthcare technology startup that has been transforming how we monitor and manage health.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, Dozee addresses a significant challenge in modern healthcare—providing continuous, contactless, and remote health monitoring, particularly for patients with chronic conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and respiratory ailments.
The company is built on a vision of saving lives through connected healthcare, leveraging technology to provide a continuum of care for patients, both in hospitals and at home.
Bridging Healthcare Gaps with Continuous Monitoring
One of the major challenges in healthcare, highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, is the lack of continuous and remote patient monitoring systems, especially for non-critical patients.
Traditional monitoring methods often require direct contact or the use of wearable devices, which can be inconvenient for elderly patients or those with long-term conditions.
This leads to missed health signals, delayed interventions, and a heavier burden on healthcare workers.
Dozee has pioneered a solution to this problem with its fully contactless monitoring system.
The technology uses a sensor placed beneath the mattress that tracks vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, sleep quality, and stress levels—all without requiring any wearables or intrusive devices.
The data is securely transmitted to the cloud via WiFi, processed with AI algorithms, and made available to healthcare providers and caregivers through a mobile app.
In case of an emergency or abnormal health trend, customizable SmartAlerts notify healthcare professionals or family members, enabling timely interventions.
From Inspiration to Innovation
Dozee’s journey took an unexpected turn when a pet dog named Pi became the source of inspiration. Founders Mudit Dandwate and Gaurav Parchani realized their technology could be applied in a contactless way after observing Pi’s reactions to their early prototypes.
This pivotal moment in 2016 led to the development of a contactless health monitoring system, which was later proven to be 98.4% accurate when compared to ICU monitors.
By 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for Dozee’s technology. As hospitals became overwhelmed, minimizing direct contact between healthcare workers and patients became crucial.
Dozee responded by implementing its contactless monitoring system in non-critical hospital wards, helping to ease the burden on frontline workers and improve patient care.
In 2022, the founders launched the “Har Bed Dozee Bed” initiative, with a vision to make continuous monitoring a standard in hospitals.
The initiative expanded Dozee’s footprint, with more than 200 hospitals and 15,500 beds now equipped with Dozee sensors. By 2023, Dozee had monitored over 398,000 patients and triggered more than 16,000 life-saving alerts.
World’s First Non-contact BP and Vital Signs Monitoring
One of Dozee’s most notable innovations is the world’s first non-contact blood pressure (NcBP) monitoring system.
Traditionally, blood pressure monitoring required the use of cuffs or invasive methods, but Dozee’s technology captures it through vibrations generated by the body during sleep.
This is made possible by a proprietary ballistocardiography technology, which studies mechanical vibrations produced by every heartbeat and respiration cycle.
Dozee’s contactless system also tracks other vitals like heart rate, respiratory rate, and sleep quality with clinical-grade accuracy.
Using AI, it converts these raw vibrations into meaningful data that can be accessed remotely through its app, ensuring patients’ vital signs are continuously monitored without discomfort.
This technology is particularly useful for elderly patients or those suffering from chronic diseases who need long-term health monitoring without the hassle of regular hospital visits.
AI-Driven Early Warning System
Dozee’s early warning system, powered by AI, is another key differentiator.
By analyzing patients’ vital trends, the system generates risk scores that help prioritize care and enable early interventions.
Healthcare providers can set customizable alerts for individual patients, ensuring that they are notified as soon as any health anomalies are detected.
Dozee’s SmartAlerts system, combined with its highly accurate monitoring technology, helps save lives by identifying deteriorating conditions before they become critical. It also reduces the workload for hospital staff, allowing them to focus on high-priority cases.
Secure and Interoperable
Designed with hospitals in mind, Dozee’s system is ISO 27001:2013 certified for data security and offers seamless integration with hospital information systems.
This ensures that hospitals can easily incorporate Dozee’s monitoring system into their existing infrastructure without compromising on security or patient confidentiality.
Expanding Access to Healthcare
Dozee’s mission to make healthcare more accessible and affordable is clear. The company’s goal is to ensure that every hospital bed in India and beyond is equipped with its monitoring technology.
Their innovative, contactless, and AI-driven approach promises to revolutionize patient care by providing hospitals and caregivers with the tools they need to monitor patients effectively, intervene early, and ultimately, save lives.
