In a bold move to bolster the gaming industry, Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha, has announced the launch of the ‘WTF Gaming Fund.’
This initiative is aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and developers who are making strides in the gaming sector. Kamath revealed this exciting news on X (formerly Twitter), encouraging innovators to apply for the fund.
Reflecting on the shifting interests of younger generations, Kamath noted, “When I was younger, cricket had all our attention, whether it was playing, watching, or cheering. It seems like in the younger generation today, cricket has been replaced with games.” He expressed his fascination with the dynamic evolution of the gaming landscape over the years.
The ‘WTF Gaming Fund’ is now accepting applications, inviting individuals involved in various facets of the gaming industry to register.
Kamath highlighted that the fund is not restricted to game development alone but is open to all creative ventures within the industry.
In his X post, Kamath tagged key figures in the gaming and tech community, including Animesh Agarwal (Founder of S8UL), Nitish Mittersain (Founder of Mumbai-based Nazara Technologies), Joseph Kim, and Krafton India CEO Sean Hyunil Sohn.
These industry leaders recently joined Kamath on his WTF podcast, where he urged them to invest their time and resources in nurturing budding talents within the gaming sector.
“If you or someone you know is building something in the industry (doesn’t only have to be a game),” Kamath added, encouraging a collective effort to support those who can get benefit from the initiative.
The launch of the ‘WTF Gaming Fund’ represents a significant step towards providing financial backing and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs, potentially reshaping the gaming industry landscape in India and beyond.
