Swiggy Ventures Into Sports With Swiggy Sports Private Limited

Foodtech giant Swiggy has received approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to incorporate its sports-focused subsidiary, Swiggy Sports Private Limited.

This marks the company’s official foray into the sports sector.

In an exchange filing, Swiggy revealed that the new entity will engage in a range of activities, including sports team ownership, talent development, event organization, facility operation, broadcasting rights acquisition, sponsorship deals, and promotion of sports events.

The move follows Swiggy’s December board decision to establish a subsidiary for “sports activities and amusement and recreation activities,” initially focused on housing its Mumbai pickleball team in the World Pickleball League (WPBL).

At the time, Swiggy clarified its sports involvement was limited to the pickleball team, with no plans for expansion. However, this latest step signals broader ambitions in the sector.

A Time of Expansion for Swiggy

Swiggy’s entry into sports comes as the company diversifies its offerings and ventures into new business areas.

Recent initiatives include the launch of the 15-minute food delivery app ‘SNACC’ in select Bengaluru neighborhoods and the rollout of Pyng Professional, a services marketplace app.

The company also introduced Swiggy Scenes, allowing users to book events at partner restaurants, and a premium invite-only membership program, ‘One BLCK.’

On the financial front, Swiggy reported a narrower net loss of INR 625.53 crore in the second quarter of FY25, down 5% year-on-year, while operating revenue grew 30% year-on-year to INR 3,601.45 crore.
