Meesho, India’s pioneering e-commerce marketplace, has reported remarkable results from its flagship event, the Meesho Mega Blockbuster Sale 2024, held from September 27 to October 6.
The company experienced a 40% increase in total orders compared to last year, highlighting a surge in online shopping among Indian consumers.
This year’s festive sale attracted over 145 crore customer visits to the platform, with a significant 45% of shoppers coming from tier 4 cities.
Meesho’s ability to tap into the e-commerce potential of underserved regions has proven instrumental in its success, reaching customers in remote locations such as Ranaghat (West Bengal), Neyyattinkara (Kerala), Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh), and Sivasagar (Assam), alongside major metropolitan areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
The sale also marked a shift in consumer behavior towards digital payment methods, with prepaid orders increasing by an impressive 117%, particularly among shoppers in tier 2 and beyond.
The platform also celebrated 3 crore app downloads during the sale period, emphasizing its growing reach and popularity.
Milan Partani, General Manager of User Growth at Meesho, attributed the platform’s success to its focus on serving underserved users and providing a wide selection at competitive prices. “During our Mega Blockbuster Sale this year, we achieved over 40% growth in orders, surpassing industry expectations,” Partani stated. “We take pride in democratizing e-commerce, ensuring that even the most remote towns can experience the convenience of online shopping.”
The festive season also saw a robust increase in demand for various categories.
Meesho reported a 105% year-over-year increase in the Home & Kitchen segment, a 60% rise in Beauty and Personal Care, and a 75% increase in Kids & Baby Essentials.
Popular products included kurtis, mobile cases, and artificial plants, reflecting consumers’ focus on enhancing their living spaces and personal well-being.
In response to the growing demand for branded products, Meesho Mall experienced 2X growth in orders.
Brands such as Mars and Mamaearth saw phenomenal growth, with Mars achieving over 4X growth and Mamaearth surpassing 2X.
Other brands like Denver, Bella Vita, and Swiss Beauty also reported significant increases in orders.
