India Launches AI Powered Trademark Search and IP Saarthi Chatbot for Enhanced IP Management

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has unveiled a groundbreaking AI and machine learning (ML)-powered trademark search module and the IP Saarthi Chatbot, marking a significant leap in India’s intellectual property management system.

This move aims to revolutionize the trademark application process, making it faster, more efficient, and accurate.

The new trademark search technology incorporates advanced AI and ML algorithms to enhance trademark identification and streamline search processes for both domestic and international businesses.

This development is expected to bolster trademark protection capabilities and expedite the registration process, ultimately improving the experience for intellectual property stakeholders.

At the launch event, Minister Goyal highlighted the transformative potential of AI and ML in enhancing the “quality of disposals” of patent applications and speeding up design approvals.

He also noted that future updates to the search module will include additional official languages to further broaden accessibility.

The IP Saarthi Chatbot, also introduced at the event, provides users with a digital assistant to navigate the Indian IP registration process, offering guidance and support throughout.

Minister Goyal emphasized the importance of embracing AI, stating, “AI is something we all have to accept. We need to become students again. This is an existential tool. The faster we adopt it to improve the outcome of our work, the better we will do.”

India joins a select group of countries, including the US, the EU, and Norway, to implement such an AI-driven trademark search module.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Indian government to leverage AI in streamlining access to government services and digital public goods.
