India-EU Startups Matchmaking Event

In a significant stride towards fostering sustainable innovation, India and the European Union (EU) jointly organized a pioneering startup matchmaking event focused on Battery Recycling Technologies for Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Hosted under the auspices of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Working Group 2 on Green and Clean Energy Technologies, the event featured twelve high-impact startups from both regions.

The event, held today (June 20, 2024), provided a specialized platform for startups across the battery recycling value chain.

Representatives included Lohum, LW3 Pvt Ltd., BatX Energies, Evergreen Lithium Recycling Pvt Ltd., Metastable Materials Pvt Ltd., CENALL Waste Management LLP, from the Indian side along with the startups from EU member states viz. Alterity, Ecomet Refining, Eneris, Primobius, RockTech, and Tozero. 

Opening the proceedings were H.E. Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU, and H.E. Mr. Herve Delphin, Ambassador, Delegation of the European Union to India, underscoring the collaborative efforts to drive green technology advancements amidst the growing EV sector.

Key interventions from Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and Mr. Marc Lemaitre, Director-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission, highlighted the strategic importance of fostering innovation and cooperation in sustainable technologies.

Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood remarked on the event’s significance, stating, “This Matchmaking event today brings together the best talents and technologies in the battery recycling space on both sides, giving them an exclusive platform for exchange, networking, and prospective investments.”

Mr. Marc Lemaitre emphasized the environmental benefits of advancing battery recycling technologies, stating, “Every step towards advanced battery recycling is a significant carbon-win for our environment.”

As a next step, three startups from each region will embark on a week-long market immersion experience in the EU and India, respectively.

This opportunity aims to facilitate direct engagement with stakeholders, explore collaborations, and navigate local market dynamics.

The India-EU TTC, established to enhance bilateral trade and technology cooperation, has identified initiatives like today’s matchmaking event as critical steps towards achieving sustainable development goals through innovation-led partnerships.

The event concluded with optimism for future collaborations, marking a milestone in the journey towards greener, more sustainable technological solutions for the global community.
