Quick commerce platform Blinkit, a subsidiary of Zomato, has ventured into healthcare with the launch of a 10-minute ambulance service.
The initiative, announced by Blinkit cofounder and CEO Albinder Dhindsa on X, aims to provide quick and reliable emergency medical assistance in urban areas.
The service debuts today in Gurugram with a fleet of five Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances.
Equipped with essential life-saving equipment such as oxygen cylinders, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), stretchers, monitors, suction machines, injections and essential emergency medicines.
Each ambulance also has a paramedic, an assistant, and a trained driver onboard.
Accessible and Affordable Emergency Care
Albinder Dhindsa emphasized that the service prioritizes social impact over profit.
“We will operate this service at an affordable cost for customers and invest in really solving this critical problem for the long term” he stated.
The option to book a BLS ambulance will be integrated into the Blinkit app, enabling users to access the service seamlessly.
The initiative is expected to expand to other major cities over the next two years as Blinkit fine-tunes its operational model.
Expanding Horizons
This marks yet another diversification move for Blinkit, which has been expanding its offerings over the past year.
Recently, the company launched Bistro, a quick food delivery app, alongside other innovations like large order fleets and the ‘Blinkit Seller Hub’ platform for vendors.
The company also entered Jammu earlier this week and introduced a feature allowing users to delete their order history.
On the financial front, Blinkit reported a robust INR 1,156 crore revenue for Q2 FY25, a significant increase from INR 505 crore in the same quarter last year.
The company also reduced its adjusted EBITDA loss to INR 8 crore from INR 125 crore year-over-year.
