Zomato Launches ‘District’ App to Expand Its ‘Going-Out’ Business

Zomato has launched its ‘District’ app, allowing users to book restaurant tables and event tickets, aiming to expand its 'going-out' business as its third-largest B2C segment.

Zomato has launched its much-anticipated ‘District’ app on iOS and Android, marking a significant step in expanding its ‘going-out’ business.

The app offers a range of features, including restaurant table reservations and ticket bookings for movies, sports events, live performances, and more.

This rollout comes over three months after the company initially announced its plans for the app.

The ‘District’ app represents Zomato’s strategic move to develop its ‘going-out’ segment into its third-largest B2C business, alongside food delivery and quick commerce.

CEO Deepinder Goyal highlighted the company’s confidence in this venture, citing the success of Zomato’s profitable dine-out business, which operates at a run-rate of over $500 million in annualized gross order value (GOV).

Innovative Features Driving User Engagement

Zomato has been aggressively rolling out new features to stay ahead in the competitive foodtech and The app’s debut follows a series of new features introduced by Zomato in recent months.

Earlier this week, the company launched its ‘Book Now, Sell Anytime’ feature, allowing users to buy event tickets in advance and resell them within the app in case of last-minute changes.

Additionally, the company rolled out a ‘Food Rescue’ feature, which enables users to purchase canceled food orders from nearby restaurants, a move aimed at combating food wastage.

Zomato’s Financial Momentum

The launch of the ‘District’ app coincides with a period of strong financial performance for Zomato.

In the second quarter of FY25, the company reported a 389% increase in net profit, reaching INR 176 crore, compared to INR 36 crore in Q2 FY24.

Its operating revenue also surged 68.5% year-on-year to INR 4,799 crore, fueled by robust growth in its quick commerce vertical, Blinkit.

Strengthening Its Position in the Lifestyle Ecosystem

By venturing into the ‘going-out’ segment, Zomato aims to cement its position as a one-stop destination for dining, entertainment, and events.

The new app is expected to compete with other lifestyle platforms while leveraging Zomato’s existing customer base and operational expertise.

As Zomato continues to innovate and expand, the ‘District’ app could prove pivotal in reshaping how users discover and book entertainment and dining experiences.
