Tata Motors Group, a leader in the automotive sector, has officially commenced construction of its cutting-edge vehicle manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, alongside various government officials and representatives from the Tata Group.
This new greenfield plant marks a significant stride towards enhancing indigenous manufacturing under the “Make in India, For the World” initiative.
The facility will specialize in producing next-generation cars and SUVs for both the Indian and international markets.
With an expected investment of approximately INR 9,000 crores, the plant is set to have an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles.
During the ceremony, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the Tata Group’s longstanding commitment to the state, noting, “Tata Group is renowned for its contribution to nation building. We welcome Tata Motors, an auto manufacturer of global scale, for setting up its newest manufacturing facility in Panapakkam.”
In addition to boosting the local economy, the facility is projected to create over 5,000 employment opportunities, directly and indirectly. It aims to equip the local workforce with future-ready skills through various training programs.
Chairman N. Chandrasekaran highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability, stating, “Our new facility will run on 100% renewable energy, ensuring that we adhere to world-class sustainability practices. We also aim to achieve a high percentage of women employees across all levels, reinforcing our focus on empowering women in the workforce.”
The new manufacturing unit will implement cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and is expected to gradually ramp up production capacity over the next 5 to 7 years.
As part of Tata Motors Group’s broader strategy, the plant will also contribute to the development of electric and luxury vehicles, aligning with global automotive trends.
