Zomato Unveils New Feature to Schedule Food Orders Up to 2 Days in Advance

Zomato has announced the launch of a new order scheduling feature that allows customers to place orders up to two days in advance.

This update, shared by CEO and Founder Deepinder Goyal on X, is designed to enhance the dining experience by providing more flexibility in meal planning.

The new feature is available for orders exceeding ₹1,000 at approximately 13,000 restaurants across major cities including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, and Jaipur.

The selection of restaurants for this service is based on their ability to consistently manage high volumes of dishes and maintain reliable kitchen preparation times.

Deepinder Goyal’s post highlights that while this feature is currently limited to a select number of restaurants and cities, Zomato plans to expand it further.

“More restaurants and cities are being added. We will soon extend this for all orders,”Deepinder Goyal stated.

This development builds on Zomato’s previous pre-ordering feature introduced for New Year’s Eve in 2016, which allowed users to schedule their dinners for December 31st.

The announcement follows Zomato’s recent decision to shut down its intercity delivery service, Legends.

Despite this, Zomato is in the midst of a broader expansion strategy, which includes strengthening its quick commerce platform Blinkit and acquiring the entertainment ticketing business from fintech giant Paytm for ₹2,048 Cr.

This acquisition is part of Zomato’s plan to develop its ‘going-out’ business and launch a new app, ‘District’, aiming to create a super brand in the entertainment sector.

Zomato’s expansion efforts are mirrored by its improving financial performance.

The company reported its first profitable quarter in Q1 FY24, with net profit rising to ₹253 Cr in Q1 FY25, compared to just ₹2 Cr in the same period the previous year.

Revenue from operations surged 74% year-on-year to ₹4,206 Cr, showcasing the company’s growth trajectory and successful strategy adjustments.
