The Government of India, through its Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is set to host the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit 2024’ on July 3rd and 4th in New Delhi.
This pivotal event marks a significant milestone in India’s commitment to advancing the responsible development, deployment, and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across sectors.
The summit will gather a distinguished cohort of global AI experts, including representatives from scientific research, industry pioneers, civil society advocates, governmental leaders, international organizations, and esteemed academia.
As the Lead Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), India is set to play a crucial role in steering international efforts towards ensuring safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems.
At the core of the ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ agenda are seven strategic pillars designed to bolster India’s AI ecosystem and drive inclusive growth:
- Compute Capacity: A concerted effort to establish a scalable AI computing infrastructure featuring over 10,000 GPUs through strategic public-private partnerships. Additionally, an AI marketplace will be launched to offer AI-as-a-service and pre-trained models, serving as a central hub for essential AI resources.
- Foundational Models: Dedication to developing and deploying indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain-specific foundational models tailored for critical sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and finance.
- Datasets Platform: Introduction of a unified platform aimed at streamlining access to high-quality, non-personal datasets essential for fostering AI innovation among Indian startups and researchers.
- Application Development: Promotion of AI-driven solutions in crucial sectors by addressing problem statements sourced from Central Ministries, State Departments, and other key institutions. The initiative focuses on scaling impactful AI applications with potential for significant socio-economic transformation.
- Future Skills: Expansion of AI education initiatives across undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. levels to reduce barriers to entry and nurture talent. Data and AI Labs will be established in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to offer foundational courses and practical training opportunities.
- Startup Financing: Provision of streamlined access to funding for deep-tech AI startups, facilitating innovation and growth within the AI entrepreneurial landscape.
- Safe & Trusted AI: Commitment to fostering responsible AI development, deployment, and adoption through the implementation of Responsible AI projects, indigenous tools and frameworks, self-assessment checklists for innovators, and robust governance frameworks.
The ‘Global IndiaAI Summit’ is expected to serve as a premier platform for showcasing groundbreaking AI advancements, fostering international collaborations, and catalyzing discussions on emerging AI trends and challenges.
Participants will engage in insightful dialogues, share best practices, and explore innovative approaches to harnessing AI for societal benefit.
With its comprehensive agenda and strategic initiatives, the Global IndiaAI Summit aims to position India at the forefront of global AI leadership, reinforcing its commitment to building a robust, ethical, and inclusive AI ecosystem that drives sustainable development and enhances global competitiveness.
